Cakes + Arts and Crafts = Pretty!

So, a very nice girl by the name of Sara saw my cake in the paper and asked me to make her a little something for the kids Christmas Party that WINGS of Providence was holding.
This is what I whipped up for her!

Since I didn`t actually own any snowflake shaped cutters... I cut some out of paper, then laid them down on rolled out fondant and used them as stencils!
Turned out pretty good!

Oh yeah.. ps, I`m famous! :)

I should have posted this a million years ago (or 1 month ago...)

The Edmonton Journal showed me some love on the cover of the LifeStyle section last month!!

Take a look!

This was really exciting, it still is really! I really love decorating cakes and I just can`t believe that my cake was in the paper, such a huge picture!! I`m really proud of this.

Whoops, a month went by without posting!

Hayden's Birthday Cake.... He's a Thomas Fan.

(sorry for the poor quality photo, I took it really quick, I nearly forgot to take one at all!)

Here are some pictures from the World Stone Inc. Cakewalk for Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts which happened on Tuesday evening.

It was a great evening, lots of laughs and silliness, lots of fabulous cakes and auction items.

I did not place, but I was happy with my cake and really, that's all that matters! It supported a great cause, I recommend checking out their website www.ninahaggertyart.ca

It seemed like a crime to make this cake...

So we're watching Vancouver Vs. Toronto on Saturday night, and I'm making THIS!

It felt like cheating on our favorite hockey team! But it did turn out cool, and fyi, Mike made the logo which was the hardest part! And since it's a Doug Gilmour jersey... we'll let it slide.

Catching up...

So, it's been a while since I've posted any pictures! I haven't made too many cakes in the last month or two, but I do have a couple of pictures to share.

Mike and I have moved to the south side of Edmonton, and I'm busy in school.. so there hasn't been too much experimenting in the kitchen!

Coming up though is the Cake Walk! It's a fabulous event for the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts. I had the pleasure in assisting with a cake last year, now I'm all on my own!! I can't wait to post some details when I get some.

Check out the link below though... and please come! Tickets are $75, totally worth it!

Here's a cake I made for Mike's best friend Tim, it was his birthday.

And a cake for Sherry's (co-worker) daughter's birthday.

I shall call him "Pinchy"

So, this is what I made this weekend.

Isn't he cute??

It was for a lobster party for a friend of a coworker. This was so fun to make! Mike actually helped me quite a bit... mostly detailing stuff.

The lobster was carved from cake, there's no pan for this sort of thing (that I know of, with my luck, there's one out there exactly like it, right?) And the base is made of half chocolate and half vanilla cake, covered in chocolate fondant.

Next up... a Mexican Sombrero!

Who said cake can't be good for your health?

Here's a picture of the display cake I made for an auction supporting Breast Cancer this upcoming weekend. The event is on Saturday night at Bo Diddly's, I highly recommend going to support a good cause and bidding LOTS to have me make you your very own cake!

And another!!

One more picture for today!   My first dummy cake, it was inspired by the cover of Martha Stewart Weddings a few months ago.  This is my take on the butterfly theme, the butterflies were purchased, they're made of feathers, the cake is fondant covered.

While you're waiting for new and exciting creations... here are some oldies!

These pictures are of Rhonda and Jeff's wedding cake.

A 6" round on top and 200 + cupcakes below!!  I couldn't find any pearls premade so I made them all by hand by rolling tiny fondant balls and then rolling those in pearl dust.

This I made at my last job making cakes... it wasn't all me, I had help but I wanted to show it off anyway because I was just so darn proud that it was in the paper, on the cover of the section!

And then another one I was really proud of... Terry and Tamara's wedding cake.  They were married in Hawaii and had a tropical reception here in Edmonton.
They cut the cake with a shovel!

A new look and much delayed pictures!

So, in an effort to get this blog going, I've created a new look!  I hope you like it.

Upcoming.. There is an auction at Bo Diddly's on June 13 and there will be an opportunity to bid on a Sweetly Styled cake!   There will also be a cake on display that you can oooh and aaahhh over while you offer up big bucks to support finding a cure for Breast Cancer!  It's a great cause and you get delicious cake to boot... so bid lots!

As for last weekend's cake... have a peek!  It was for my coworker Debbie, she's a really cool lady and I was very honoured that she asked me to make a cake for her 50th birthday/25th anniversary.

You can't see too well, but the tree trunk on top has her initials and her husbands and their wedding date.  Also, some pictures of a finger swipe through the writing... a little girl didn't believe it was real!! Hahaha.

Registered domain name.... Check!

Very soon... hopefully today, you will be able to access my blog via www.sweetlystyled.ca OR www.sweetlystyled.com.  I'm having some technical difficulties at the moment, but they are registered.

This week I'm working on a golf themed birthday/anniversary cake for my friend/coworker Debbie.  I can't wait to see how it turns out... so far I just have some gumpaste pieces made.

I'll post some pictures of the progress when there is something to show.  On another note... it's May 19th and when I woke up this morning there was snow on the ground.  Yikes.
